Servers can't download updates
Problem
The batch server can't download updates.
Your job
- Get vm-batch reaching updates.example.org on 443 through nat-gw
Without breaking
- Don't give vm-batch a public IP of its ownbroken
- Keep vm-batch blocked from the internet on other ports, like 22broken
Background
"Patching failed on the batch server again last night. It can't reach the update site, updates.example.org." vm-batch lives in the private subnet-batch and must go out to the internet through nat-gw, never a public IP of its own. It may only use HTTPS to the internet.
How to work it
- 1See it fail
This traffic starts outside the lab VMs, so you can't log in to test it. Watch it instead.
Tap Explain on the red line under the map.
Ticks off when you tap Explain on the broken line.
- 2Find where it stops
- 3Fix it and test again

- Route table on the subnet
- VM Appliance Private endpoint
- Peering Connected Initiated or access off
- Goal working Goal broken, X marks where it stops
- Private DNS zone, dotted lines go to linked VNets
